This circuit I normally “run” around in preparation for our Brighton Half Marathon in March, whilst Coen is at footy training. Today I couldn’t run, a chest infection and 3 teeth extractions this week has put me on my ar*se, I’m not going to lie, physically and mentally drained. So instead of my usual hands up approach, I’ll start when I feel better, I have walked this circuit 3 times this morning, just so I’ve managed to at least get some steps in.
Grief is a little bit like that. If you don’t feel like climbing that mountain today, climb a hill or just the stairs if that’s all you can manage. There is no right or wrong way to get you through the day, whilst carrying that rucksack of grief and nobody can tell you any different, especially when they haven’t walked a day, a minute or even a second in your shoes. Losing a child is like being put in prison and the sentence is grief, a lifetime of grief.
We are finding out since Chayse was killed that this happens all too often, losing a child in lots of different scenarios and situations. Thinking before “oh my goodness how sad” then going on to ask what everyone wants for dinner because it’s happened to someone else. We are now that “family” that “someone else” a part of a club that we never, ever thought we could or would be a part of. As I say this happens a lot more than you’d think and we want to help other families that are having to walk in our shoes. We can’t take the rain away but we can walk beside you, which is why throughout the year we have been doing our fundraising, so we can do just that.
I have had many people say to us, we wish there is something we could do to help you and the reality is there is nothing anyone can do to take our pain away and ultimately bring Chayse back (believe me I wish there was) but by supporting our cause, hair brained ideas, even, you are rounding off the sharpness of our broken hearts a little and showing that there are good people willing to help and not everyone will leave you for dead.
Keep an eye out for what we have coming up next on our website and socials.
We have some big plans in place……
Quizzes, sky dive, Brighton half marathon, golf days, fishing days, London to Paris bike ride and our annual Chayse West Fest - last bank holiday in August!
